Overview
Theyyam is not a dance — it is a living deity. Performed in the temple groves of northern Kerala, this ancient ritual art form dates back over two millennia and remains one of the most powerful spiritual experiences in India.
Your evening begins with a cultural briefing by a local scholar who explains the mythology, costumes and significance of the form you're about to witness. The performance itself — blazing torches, towering headdresses, rhythmic percussion — is unlike anything you will see anywhere else in the world.
The experience concludes with a traditional vegetarian feast served on banana leaf, eaten by firelight.
